I truly enjoy being the Library Media Specialist here at Riverview Elementary! We have an amazing school filled with eager-to-learn, wonderful students and dedicated, caring staff! It is so much fun getting to work with former students again and getting acquainted with all the fantastic kindergarten through fifth graders here at Riverview. I love getting kids excited about reading, introducing them to new books and authors they may not have read before, and researching with them! My goal is to develop lifelong readers!
This is my last year of teaching as I will retire on June 1, 2020. I have loved my career in education and will miss the students, staff, and parents I have had the pleasure of working and growing with over the years. I am looking forward to spending more time with family and friends, reading, playing my piano, baking, doing hobbies I haven't done in a while, traveling, taking our boat out on our neighborhood lake, walking, and biking. If you see me when you are out and about, PLEASE stop me and say hello! I will want to hear how you are, what you are up to, how school is going, what activities you are involved in, and what books you are reading! I will have my eyes open for my Falcons everywhere I go so we can reconnect!
The 2019 - 2020 School Year is my 29th year of teaching. I taught second grade a total of 12 years, first grade for 2 years, and Tutorial Math Grades 3-6 for 1 year. I also was a substitute teacher for 5 years after taking time off to raise my own children. This is my 16th year at Riverview and my 14th year as the Library Media Specialist at Riverview. I taught second grade my first two years at Riverview.
I earned a Bachelor of Science in Education at Emporia State University, a Master of Science in Education at MidAmerica Nazarene University, and a Master of Science in Educational Technology with an Emphasis in Library Media at Pittsburg State University. I have the following endorsements: Early Childhood Education, Elementary, Library Media, and English for Speakers of Other Languages.
I enjoy reading, singing, listening to music, cooking, baking, playing the piano, sewing, watching movies, biking, walking, and spending time with family and friends!
I am married and enjoy living on a lake in Basehor, Kansas. Watching the amazing wildlife and the ripples and waves in the water is so fun and relaxing. I have two grown children who are both married and live in the Kansas City area. I am very proud to be the grandmother of four precious grandchildren!!! I have two lively miniature dachshunds, Buddy and Bella!
